Princess Alexandra Hospital

Relocation of Transit Lounge

Project Information

The PA Hospital required their existing Transit Lounge to be relocated as a matter of priority to enable the proposed redevelopment of the Hospital Foyer and Main Entry (a project which subsequently was postponed).

Destravis was initially engaged to assess three possible locations for relocation of the Transit Lounge and to develop a Feasibility Study for a preferred option.  The Study identified a solution and process for relocating the Transit Lounge within the extremely tight timeframe.

Following approval of the study, Destravis was engaged as the Principal Consultant to develop the project and deliver through construction.

The new Transit Care Hub offers great comfort to the patients and staff. It alleviates any waiting/block in the emergency and the hospital ward. The Hub is designed with refreshment areas, breakout areas, and equipped with wireless access and other entertainment for the patient.

The total project included the new Transit Care Hub, delivering 12 beds, 18 recliners and 6 chairs as well as incorporating the relocation of the Bed Management Unit and Nursing Resource Unit into new adjoining office space. The new work environment is bright, open and spacious, supporting the growth within the Unit.  A covered walkway links the existing hospital with the new facility.
