Mackay Hospital Redevelopment

Workplace Planning

Project Information

Gunther De Graeve developed the strategy and workplace brief for administrative spaces within the new Mackay Hospital.

The new building created opportunity to redefine the workplace culture and environment.  This scope included high level workplace strategy development in conjunction with CEO and Senior Management to establish a high efficiency working environment that would assist in the attraction and retention of personnel.

Perceived departmental segregation, hierarchical traditions, privacy and acoustic concerns were addressed and overcome through a series of user workshops exploring international trends, advancements in ICT, results of acoustic testing and opportunities for improved social spaces.

Gunther De Graeve successfully managed the stakeholder engagement and change management process to achieve CEO and Senior Management sign-off and general enthusiasm around a brief which drastically changed working styles and workplace culture.

The resultant ‘zero-office’ hospital was the first of its kind in Australia.
